 Incline Railway

incline railway at the chattanoogan

During the 1880's railroad boom, a luxury hotel resort was built on top of Lookout Mountain.  Guests did not enjoy the two-dollar, four-hour buggy ride up the mountain so in 1895, John Crass and the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway Company built the incline to whisk people up and down the mountain.
